Umami Steak

  • 1 1/4 pound flank steak
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves of garlic, smashed and roughly chopped
  • 5 green onions, roughly chopped white and green parts
  • ½ bunch of cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled, roughly diced
  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos
  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil
  • Pinch of chili flakes


  1. PREPARE all the marinade ingredients
  2. PUT meat and marinade in a container / bag. I love @rezip gallon size bags for marinating
  3. REMOVE as much air as possible, seal the bag
  4. MARINATE overnight
  5. REMOVE meat from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking
  6. PREHEAT grill over medium high heat
  7. GRILL approximately 5 minutes on the first side, 2-3 minutes on the second
  8. LET rest for 5 minutes, cut against the grain
  9. SPRINKLE with sesame seeds, green onions and enjoy!
