I’ve been thinking a lot about how I show up in the world. I often feel caught between feeling strong/passionate/purposeful andddd a hot, flailing, (beautiful) mess. Today’s feels were the former, and I’m savoring them. 💁🏻‍♀️ . This hot number is my lemongrass chicken made with @marionacres. My blog is under construction...so I thought I’d share this one here for ya’s! #cookbycolor . . 6-8 pasture raised Bone-in, Skin-on chicken pieces 1 Bunch cilantro, roughly chopped 1 Small onion, roughly chopped ½ Inch of fresh ginger, finely chopped or ½ tsp ground ginger 1 3 Ounce pack of fresh lemongrass- inner, tender parts only- finely chopped 2 Juiced limes 3 Cloves of garlic, crushed, sliced 1 tsp ground turmeric 1 tsp preferred hot sauce 1 tsp fish sauce 1 tsp sesame oil ½ Cup coconut aminos or soy sauce ¼ Cup avocado oil Sauce 1 Tbsp Apricot Preserves 3 Tbsp Coconut Aminos ½ tsp fish sauce (optional) 1 tsp sesame oil 1 tsp sesame seeds Garnish Chopped green onions Cilantro COMBINE marinade ingredients in a large tupperware or gallon size bag ADD Chicken WAIT. No, really, wait. For 48 hours. PREHEAT Barbecue to low setting. The objective is to cook this on indirect heat so the chicken pieces will cook at a lower temperature, allowing it to cook evenly on all sides. The result will be tender and juicy chicken cooked to perfection with the added ‘grill’ flavor. I have the outside burners on lowest setting, and cook the chicken in the middle or however you can best achieve indirect cooking. COMBINE sauce ingredients in a small sauce pan over low heat, mix well. COOK Chicken pieces low and slow for approximately 1 hour BRUSH Hot chicken with apricot sauce, sprinkle with garnish, and enjoy!

My former Crossfit coach and lifelong buddy always says, ‘do less, better.’ My husband reminded me of that as I ended last year perpetually overextended, exhausted and behind. Can you relate?! . . So I regroup. I am honing in on this new mindset. I’m going to do less, better. My intention is to stop feeling exasperated and start feeling productive, proud and passionate about how I spend my precious time. Watching Talus grow so fast is making me painfully aware that this ColorFULLife is zooming by, and I have to use my time wisely. At the moment this means: I’m going to: Find time to do the things I love with people I love. Start and (gasp) FINISH my books. Prioritize baby steps- and not get paralyzed by big scary goals. Organize my days so that I have some with absolutely no obligations and can be a (little) spontaneous. Guard my time. It’s a precious and very limited resource that I’ve played fast and loose with for too long. I will no longer: Feel obligated to do things or see people just because. Work for free (or exposure, or to prove my worth). Host house guests for too long. It’s just too stressful for me and I need my space. Give out my energy unless it’s an equal exchange. (Hard for me- I am a people pleaser). It’s raining, I’m snuggling on a couch with Nick, our tiny Talus, puppy + kitty and we even have candles lit. It’s me time, us time, snuggle time. If I could describe this moment as a single dish, this would be it. Bright, warm, glowy vibes, chock full of nutrients, textures, and colors. Is that weird? Feelings as food? All I want is this pot roast, my cozy boys, big fluffy blankets, a clear schedule and maybe my mommy. Even though I am a mom now, I feel like I need mine more than ever- and it’s her birthday today! 🤷🏻‍♀️ . I am maybe being dramatic but I’m letting myself have the bleh feels anyway. It’s a culmination of emotions from circumstances and internal struggles. Life is in seasons, and mine just happens to mirror what’s happening around me. Seasonal sadness, lacking creative mojo, direction and time/freedom to explore and rejuvenate. I’m fine, really. Just thought I’d share in case you’re feeling poopy too. . Have you ever tried Preserved Lemons? If so, you’d probably forgo the lemonade the next time life hands you lemons. I assure you, they are worth the hype! I do demos and talk more about this in my stories (it will be saved in highlights.)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ These beauties take little time to prepare, and give your food warmth and depth for up to a year to come. They can amp up anything from dressings to fish, chicken, dips, dressings, mayo, and more.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Everyone has their preferred method, and swears by his or hers. I encourage you to get your feet wet, try it, and adapt the basics to fit you. Many in my Moroccan family goes by thick-skinned lemons, while others swear by Meyer. Some recipes call to leave them whole, halved, or quartered. I tend to stick with family tradition.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My preference is slices, as they lend themselves to ease of use for measurement in recipes. Another way to customize this is to add herbs, or spices to the jar. Here I went with organic Meyer lemons and rosemary. Get WILD and have fun.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Ingredients:⁣⁣ ⁣ Salt (My preference is Kosher @redmondrealsalt )⁣⁣ Lemons⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ STERALIZE glass jars.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ SLICE lemons of choice into ½” thick slices.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ PLACE cut lemon slice onto a plate layered in salt, flip.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ LAYER the generously covered salty slices into the glass jar, adding desired spices/herbs.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ SMUSHLE the layers as you place them, squeezing the juice out with your fingers. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ APPLY layer upon layer to the very tippy top- packing them in as tightly as possible.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ADD juice if necessary, but make sure that the lemons are completely covered in liquid.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ LEAVE the jar in a cool, dark place to ferment for a minimum of 4 days; I go for a week-10 days in my cool climate.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ SHAKE periodically during this fermenting time.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ REFRIGERATE for 3 weeks before use.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ KEEP for a long time. (I’ve used for up to a year!)⁣⁣ #cookbycolor
My family is my favorite, and living far away isn’t easy for me. I’m currently feeling full- of love, gratitude, ideas, inspiration. It snowed last night and dusted our sweet little town in white making soaking up our family time while slurping down this soup extra cozy. Nick grew up with traditional green bean casserole, and I couldn’t even. So 10 years ago I recreated it from scratch. This is haricots verts baked in a luscious, love-infused cashew and macadamia nut cream, port, beef bone broth, thyme, mushroom soup (white, shiitake). Tons of shallots will be crisped up tomorrow. I’m raw, real, and gloriously imperfect. MY kinda ‘lifestyle’ photo shoot looks like my real life. This is me, my family and my beautiful, messy, colorful world, and I’m proud of all of it.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Quirks about me:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Since I was a little kid, I made friends wherever I’d go. I’m stupid friendly, smile at everyone and love talking to strangers. I’ll leave it at that or I might get ranty.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I respect recipes, but I also don’t like rules...⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Grocery shopping is a sport to me, and I’m unabashedly the MVP. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I have to say hi to all the dogs + awkwardly chase some down too - ALL dogs (regardless of age) are puppies.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m sensitive to sound and get a little cookoo when overwhelmed by noise.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I leave a trail of stuff wherever I go and I never know where my keys or sunglasses are. Nick is basically a saint that has a photographic memory and keeps tabs on my belongings.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m a first generation American- 1/2 French Moroccan, 1/2 Dutch, all Jewish. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m v. close to my family (all in LA) and talk to at least one parent and one sibling /day.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Puppies, kitties, and babies can all be aptly described as 'delicious'.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am so glad you found yourself here.
